Cultural Ministers' Council Creative Innovation Economy Roundtable

Terms Of Reference

Vision

Strengthen the prospects for the creative sector in the digital environment.

Mission

The aim of the Roundtable is to consider opportunities for building a creative innovation economy involving Australian and New Zealand creative industries and to facilitate innovation across the broader national economy.

Objectives

The purpose of the Roundtable is to:

  1. gather information on activities across jurisdictions supporting the development of the creative sector in the digital environment;
  2. identify shared priorities and opportunities contributing to a creative innovation economy;
  3. act as a catalyst to facilitate information exchange and collaboration between jurisdictions; and
  4. report on findings including achievements, opportunities and potential future directions.

Strategies to achieve these outcomes

The Roundtable will undertake research to:

  1. map significant trends, activities and support mechanisms across jurisdictions for creative sector activity in the digital environment,
  2. identify linkages to industry development, technology infrastructure (eg. Broadband, mobile), film and cultural policy program frameworks,
  3. facilitate a clearer understanding of issues by identifying shared priorities and opportunities, and
  4. identify avenues for promoting the creative innovation economy and strengthening the creative sector in the digital environment.

Membership

Membership will be settled out of session through the Secretariat in consultation with jurisdictions. The Roundtable will draw together government officials from operational levels across industry development, technology infrastructure (eg. Broadband, mobile), film and cultural policy.

Timeframe and process

The Roundtable will prepare progress reports to officials through CMC mechanisms and conclude by reporting to the next CMC meeting. The Australian Government Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA) will provide the Secretariat for the Roundtable. The Roundtable will maximise online and teleconferencing mechanisms to progress the work program, convening meetings to finalise the forward work plan and the report.
