Now in its 40th year, The Portia Geach Memorial Award is recognised as one of the most important celebrations of the talents and creativity of Australian female portrait painters.

This year's winner, Central Coast resident Nerissa Lea, took out the prestigious title and pocketed $18,000 for her painting, The Sheik & Me, Self Portrait with Imagined Portrait of Chad Morgan after Frida Kahlo.

The 2004 Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship has an exhibition of the finalists' paintings on public display at the Brett Whiteley Studio, Surry Hills, Sydney, New South Wales until 28 November, 2004. This year's Scholarship recipient, Alan Jones, who won the prize with his oil painting, Figure # II 2004. Alan, 27, from East Brunswick, Victoria, won $25,000 and a 3-month residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, which is administered by the Art Gallery of New South Wales. 2004 Digital Content Industry Action Agenda Industry Forums are being held this month because after more than two years of research by the Creative Industries Cluster Study, the Minister for Communication, Information Technology and the Arts launched an Industry Action Agenda for the Digital Content Industry.

The DCIAA forums, at Coles Theatre, Powerhouse Museum, Ultimo, Sydney, New South Wales on 24 November, 3-6pm and Cinema 1, Australian Centre for Moving Image, Federation Square, Melbourne, Victoria on 25 November 3-6pm, are an opportunity to inform, learn and share opinions. The forums are designed to encourage participation from industry members, capture their input and use it to navigate a progressive path for the Digital Content Industry. Remembrance Day 2004

On November 11 Australians celebrate Remembrance Day to commemorate the armistice that ended the First World War in 1918. Each year Australians observe one minute's silence at 11am on 11 November to remember those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. Of the Australian population of 5 million, 300,000 young men went to the First World War, and of those, 60,000 died and 156,000 were wounded or taken prisoner. Game Time is a two-day international exhibition of digital games and interactive media art at the State Library of Victoria and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne, Victoria, from 1 October - 15 November 2004.
