Pinnacles Tours
The Pinnacles are located within Nambung National Park near the town of Cervantes and North of Perth, its closest big city. Besides the Pinnacles Desert, the park itself features swimming and fishing activities, and has several walking trails to choose from.
The Pinnacles are limestone formations made from ancient seashells. These formations push up through the bright yellow sand of the desert, resulting in towers that resemble dead tree trunks or tombstones. They are an amazing site to see, with the sunlight casting shadows across the sand and illuminating the beautiful colors of the Pinnacles.
Tours can be taken by car, with many leaving Cervantes daily. Visit during the months of August to October, when the weather is fair and wildlife and plants are at their peak. Mornings and evenings are best for viewing the Pinnacles formations because of the play of light on the limestone and desert sand. There is a scenic loop throughout the Pinnacles that is suitable for driving on with a lighter type vehicle.
The Pinnacles are suitable for walking as well. Many of Western Australia’s native plants are best viewed up close, not to mention to seeing the wildlife and beautiful open sky. Most tours feature a leisurely walk through the Pinnacles. I couldn’t think of a better way to end the day than a sunset walk through this otherworldly, moon like landscape.
Taking a tour is a great way to travel. It can save you money as part of a vacation package, and it’s an easy way to learn about the sites you are seeing. A Pinnacles tour is a Western Australian favorite!
